Weddings are uncontrollable events and even the best wedding photographers in Toronto use tricks to cover their bases. One of them is to retake the same pictures in different locations and then deliver the best ones to the bride and groom. I employed such technique at this Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe wedding.
During the ceremony the sky was overcast and I didn't like the quality of light. Light or other the quality and direction of light are key ingredients for a good wedding photograph. That is the reason why a re-created these scenes in a controlled environment.
The first picture shows the groom putting on the wedding band. While apparently a very simple concept, the execution of this image is magnificent. First I asked the groom to put on the wedding band in a very slow motion. I always find that a bit of motion helps with posing and with emotions in a photograph. Next, I kneeled and put my camera a few inches from the bride and groom's hands. I used a wide angle lens so I can capture the hands, part of the bride's dress, and of course the ocean. This image was shot at F16 so I can have everything in focus.
The image on the right re-creates a picture perfect first kiss. The beauty of the landscape, the simplicity of the pose in the diagonal formed by the subjects and the bouquet, make this an exquisite wedding photo.
