Photojournalist Michael Rosenblum pioneered the five shot method while he was working for BBC. Basically, this is a simple yet very effective technique employed by a wedding photographer to create a variety of photographs under time constraints and when he lacks creativity. The first shot is a full body photograph of the couple. The second one is a close-up of their faces. The third one is an extreme close-up of the hands. The fourth picture is one captured from a creative angle. Finally, the fifth image is one taken over the shoulders.
This particular photograph is an extreme close-up of the hands of the newlyweds and was taken shortly after the couple's wedding ceremony in the Crystal Ballroom at King Edward Hotel.
While I'm not a big advocate of shot lists and canned poses, I'm a firm believer that one needs to have a plan on the big day so that the professional photographer delivers enough images for the bride and groom to fill the wedding album. Often things run relates on the special day and instead of a two-hour photo shoot with a couple we are only given a few minutes. This amazing shot captures an extreme close-up of the bride and groom's hands. Above their hands we can see a hint of their faces in the creative crop just above the lips creates an aura of mystery and tension.
