This Toronto Botanical Garden wedding was held in one of the most beautiful outdoor wedding venues in Toronto: The Courtyard.
This panoramic album spread of the patio adjacent to the Floral Hall portrays the wedding guests. What makes this picture special? An interesting fact is that different characters in this image do different things. First, we have the posers. When they see a camera pointed towards them they pose and their attitude changes. Second, we have the hobbyist photographers. Being that this is a fusion wedding where the bride is Chinese Vietnamese, there were a lot of passionate photographers. Third, we have the kids who couldn't care less about the marriage ceremony. Finally, there are the guests who paid attention to the service.
Because I shot this photo with the wide angle lens (Canon 16 to 35 mm) at F8, everybody is in focus. In effect, this photograph tells 150 individual stories in one frame. That is the estimated number of guests in this picture.
Maybe the most important role of this picture is to document the presence of the friends and family at this wedding ceremony. Often, as a Toronto wedding photographer I have to remind myself that documenting the day is more important sometimes than winning photography awards. After all, I shoot the weddings for the bride and groom and for their children and families. That makes wedding photography so powerful and or job so important. Many times brides are just looking for an affordable wedding photographer and forget the other aspects that make a good professional. Speed, good eye for composition and detail, creativity, great personality, energy are qualities of a pro photographer.
